On to the second series!
I never noticed the circled “H” on hobby boxes until a seller from Ebay pointed it out to me a few weeks back.
You can sort of see some of the speckling from the stickiness of the cards. This box was much better than the last series’ but it was still a problem. I’m glad Topps changed the process in later years.
These are the Red Backs opposed to the series 1 Blue backs. Ichiro is a keeper for me but the others are available.
Shiny. (Any Firefly fans reading this?) Only getting two in an entire hobby box does not motivate me to attempt to complete the insert set. I’ll probably be checking LIFETIME TOPPS PROJECT‘s wantlist and see if he needs them. Or I recently traded with CARDS MY MOTHER DIDN’T THROW OUT. He’s a Diamondbacks collector.
More Golds! But no one I collect. It’s too bad because the design of this year’s set is so appealing to me! It’d would have been nice to pull a Pujols (HA! Say that outloud.) or an Ichiro.
The backs of these cards show the Active Career Leaders in the category listed on the right side of the front. If not for the Juicers, Griffey would have probably topped each list. He’s listed as 5th on each.
I really like this set. I think I will post my needs on wantlists.

Another box with no “hit”.
No worries. It’s just cardboard.
Here’s my wantlist for the set. Thanks for reading!
I’ve been dreading writing this post. My box of 2001 Series 1 was in pretty good condition. My series 2 box – not so much.
ALL of the cards were stuck together! I’m a set collector for the most part and I’m not too concerned with top condition cards but I’m guessing at least half of the cards I opened have significant damage. I threw away about 20 that were just horrible. Here’s an example.
Sigh. Here we go anyways.
My box! Little did I know what awaited me.
My first card. Most of the top cards are okay. Occasionally there was some damage to the back but I’m not too concerned with that as long as I can read all of the stats.
The inserts seemed to turn out okay, though. There must have been a slightly different card stock or coating.
I’ve decided to collect the Topps Combos inserts. Since I’m a fan of Diamond Kings painted cards always draw me in. I’m not sure if these are actually painted or just have a photoshopped filter on them. Either way I like them!
What Could Have Been inserts.
Before There Was Topps.
I did get an Auto! Mr. Durbin had a 14 year career but was never really a dominant pitcher. STATS.
Sadness. This is the card I really, reALLY, REALLY wanted! As you can see it didn’t make it into my hands safely. It’s just cardboard but it’s still disappointing.

Hopefully this is the only time I experience a box break of damaged cards.
My wantlist is up Here.
Thanks for reading!
With a nice little PAYPAL balance thanks to the sale of my 1/1 Jose Abreu (The guy who bought it is currently trying to resell it at twice the price he paid), it was time to buy some cardboard!
I wanted to pick up some Ichiro rookies before he gets his 3000 MLB hit. I have a feeling some of them might get out of my price range by then. I paid about $5 for the PSA 2001 Topps. Doesn’t it cost more than that to even get a card graded by PSA?
2001 Topps Gallery Ichiro #151
I really like the look of this card, especially the Japanese text. I tried to learn the language once but didn’t get further than counting to ten.
These weren’t on my Bo want list but I love the look and dichotomy of them. I imagine the first is the moment after he nailed a dinger and the second is just after he struck out.
1993 Diamond Kings
1994 Diamond Kings
1994 Diamond Kings
1995 Diamond Kings
1995 Diamond Kings
1996 Don Mattingly Diamond Kings
This was a great Diamond Kings catch for me. The 1994 and 1995 sets by Dick Perez seem more playful and “90s” to me. Images of the Fresh Prince of Bell Air run through my head.
2007 Upper Deck Masterpieces
I think some guy just wanted to get these out of his house because I picked up about 1000 UD Masterpieces for about $0.25 plus shipping. After taking out a complete set I noticed I had about 4-5 more complete sets in the lot. If you have 2007 Upper Deck Masterpieces needs – I’m the guy to come to!
