Hobby Box Break – 2016 A & G part 2 – Gint-A-Cuffs VIII

Here are the next six packs of my hobby box break for the Gint-A-Cuffs competition.

7th pack.

After the first quarter of the box my points stand at 19. Cowherd gives my a negative but Drury (Favorite Player List), Natural Wonders, and an A&G back mini each bump me up +2. Point Total = 24

8th Pack.

Nothing.

9th Pack.

IMG_1001

The Mayor mini and Natural Wonder give me a total of +4 = 28 PTS.

10th Pack.

IMG_1002

Laureates of Peace mini is a nice pull (1:38) and is worth +2 but gets cut in half since I pulled my first Yankee! 29 points total.

11th pack.

IMG_1003

My first relic hit is worth +5 and the SP mini gives me +3. Points = 37.

12th Pack.

IMG_1004

My favorite player makes an appearance! Kershaw gives me +4 but there’s another Yankee to deduct 1. The Price is a black-bordered mini though so that gives me another +3.

Half-way thru my box and my Point Total stands at 43.

At this time only one person has posted their total on the Leader Board. That total is 81 so I’m on pace to surpass that. However, there are a total of 17 participants so chances are someone will get a nice hit to pop them over 100.

Dances with Trade #8 – Bloggergraph

Time to catch up on trades.

IMG_0690

Chris over at fanofreds.blogspot.com sent over some 2016 inserts, 2015 Archives, 2011 Lineage,  and some custom minis including the two shown! Is a custom autographed card of a blogger a Bloggergraph?

Julie over at acrackedbat.blogspot.com sent over some 2016 Inserts, 2015 Gypsy Queen, 2015 Archives, and several Kershaw and Jackson cards including the two shown. Clayton Kershaw and Bo Jackson are definitely my top two player collections and I don’t mind getting doubles. Whenever you need to pad out a package to me you can slip in some Kershaws or Bos!

Scan

Jared over at cmmdto.blogspot.com sent over some 2015 Gypsy Queen and some Kershaws including this 5 x 7 monster from 2015 Archives.

I’ve also completed a trade with Canadian blogger, Mike, from Not Another Baseball Card Blog.

As well as some trades with nolansdugout.blogspot.com and lifetimetopps.wordpress.com.

It’s been a busy year so far with trades! Thank you so much to everyone for your generosity and willingness!

I have a second call out for FANTASY BASEBALL enthusiasts! The league I’ve been in for the past 6+ years has an opening for one manager. Let me know ASAP if you are willing to join. The generic league info can be found at my previous blog post.

Thanks for reading and let me know if you’d like to trade!

Dances with Trades #7 -Kershaw’s Stamp

I’ve been very lucky so far this year acquiring some great new trading partners.

First, Marc from REMEMBER THE ASTRODOME knocked off more than 100 from my 1984 wantlist. He’s an Astos fan and will take what you have of them!

Then, Greg from loqtus.webs.com helped complete my 2014 Topps Heritage base set and sent about 67 cards for my 2011 Topps Update needs as well as a few inserts. His wantlists are posted as well!

And we have Jace from CARDS MY MOTHER DIDN’T THROW OUT. He just joined the blogosphere in the past several weeks and seems to be extremely active with the trading community. I sent him a few Diamondbacks including a 2015 Archie Bradley Auto and a Goldschmidt Relic. He sent over a stack of 1984 and 2003 Topps and also this beauty –

The kids and I were just driving home from Sunday School today when I checked the mailbox and found Jace’s package with this card inside. I was floored! This is now one of the coolest cards in my collection.

I think Kershaw is my favorite active player not only because of his dominance on the mound but also due to his ability to be in the spotlight and shine his Christian light. I pray everyday that the kids, my wife and I can carry ourselves as we ought to in God’s eyes. I think Mr. Kershaw most likely does, as well.

Thank you so much for everyone’s willingness to trade and their generosity. Yesterday was the 2 year anniversary of my heart surgery. I’ve noticed in the past year that I’m doing much better mentally. A lot of days are a struggle with my PTSD popping up and keeping me awake but the Hobby is very calming and methodical and it’s great to be a part of  a community that’s helpful and generous.

Dances with Trades #4 – 2015 Series 2 Complete

Reader Bryan sent me a message that he had a few more cards for me after we had already completed a trade. Previously, I sent him some Braves and he sent me some cards I needed, although at this moment I’ve lost track of what, exactly. Darn you post-heart surgery brain!!!!

In the mail today I received these four cards, though!

Untitled Untitled01 Untitled02 Untitled03

All of them are great pics and the three base cards complete my 2015 series 1 and 2 sets!

Thank you so much to Bryan and to everyone else who helped me complete the sets!

Now the wait for 2015 Update begins!

HOBBY BOX BREAK #6 – 2011 Topps Lineage

Well, it’s a RETAIL box, technically, but I didn’t want to start another category.

DSCN1065

A Twin on the box alongside Mickey Mantle!?! We had a good run while Mauer, Morneau, and Cuddyer were batting in the heart of the order and Johan Santana was on the mound. Mauer is the only piece left but now he’s the veteran to guide Sano, Buxton, and Vargas as the Twins hopefully start another string of division championships.

2011 Lineage01

Retail boxes had a hit. This is mine. I have a stack of Jersey relics that need a new home along with this one. Let me know if you are interested. This card is actually a 1975 mini. It’s hard to tell in the scan but it’s a tiny card.

2011 Lineage V and cloth

These are the cloth inserts. The base set consists of 200 cards with the same design but not cloth. The base is shiny white much like every other Topps set for 4-5 years.

2011 Lineage

These are my keepers. I collect them both.

2011 Lineage Platinums

Here are my platinum variations available for trade.

2011 Lineage Diamonds

Diamond inserts for Topps’ 50 anniversary. Also available for trade.

2011 Lineage V and cloth01

Venezuelan variations. Who wants them?

2011 Lineage minis

More 1975 Mini’s but without a jersey swatch. I love that Cy Young played for the Spiders. I might hang on to him but the others can be in your mailbox in less than a week.

2011 Lineage 3d and more02

3D cards. Not a bad scan!

2011 Lineage 3d and more01

I pulled a few of the 2011 Rookies inserts but have already found a home for the others. This one is still available, though.

2011 Lineage 3d and more

And a Stand-up. If you want this you have to send me a picture back of this card punched out and standing somewhere!

Final Tally-

159 – base (200)

32 – inserts

1- game-used jersey

NO DOUBLES!

191 total cards

Most cards pictured are available for trade.

Here’s my wantlist if you can help me out! 2011 Topps Lineage

Hobby Box Break #3 – 2015 Topps Heritage

As stated in my GIVEAWAY post, I wasn’t planning on buying a box of Heritage. Last year I bought one pack from The Big Red Bullseye and the cards fit snuggly in a single 9 pocket page.

I just don’t collect enough modern-day star players to warrant a meaningful return from buying an entire box.

But, after opening 22 of the 24 packs I have to admit I really like this years Heritage set! The card stock is thicker and more cardboard-ish than the Topps main set. The inclusion of the team managers and the team cards harkens back to the pre-90’s. The cards look great in a three-ring binder.

2015 Topps Heritage Box

2015 Topps Heritage Box

The first thing I saw after opening the box was this pack.

DSCN0639

And this is what popped out.

DSCN0640

DSCN0641

I’ve never heard of Pappas but I’ll be on the lookout for him now while I’m playing my 20th season of OOTP Baseball.

DSCN0642

Watson was on my fantasy team for a while last year. I love the stare of intimidation he has for my previous sentence.

DSCN0644

This was my first insert. I believe it’s a chrome refractor #466/ 566.

2015 heritage sp

Here’s the short prints. I’m not going to collect them so they are all for trade.

trout 500

I don’t collect Trout either. This is the color swapped SP.  I really want the 2011 Topps Update set but I’m not willing to pay the price for the Trout RC. If anyone is willing to sell the update set without Trout let me know! This card is up on ebay already since I saw it was selling for more than $20. More $ in my paypal means more cards for me!

Untitled

My first Auto! I think I’m going to hold on to this as a memento even though I’ve never heard of Mr. Wakefield.

2015 heritage then 7 now

Then & Now inserts. I really like the Kershaw and Koufax card. That’s a keeper! I’ll probably hang on to the Twins slugger, too.

2015 heritage nap

Another Kershaw. He’s one of the few Modern stars I collect.

2015 Heritage flashbacks

I like the history of the Flashbacks cards but not the design.

Final Tally-

176 – base (425)

11 – inserts

1 – auto

1 – buyback

10 – SP

NO DOUBLES!

199 total cards out of 22 packs. That’s about $0.37 per/card. That’s a little steep for set collecting, in my view, so I won’t be buying another box.

I do think I’ll try to complete the set through trades and perhaps a few Big Red Bullseye packs.

If you haven’t joined my GIVEAWAY – DO! FREE CARDS! My 4-year-old son will be randomly choosing the winner on Tuesday Night. Thanks for reading and let me know if you are interested in trading for any of the cards shown!
