Hobby Box Break #11 – 2007 Topps Heritage

I love me my Heritage! My wantlists for 2008-2015 are trimmed down so it’s time to start working my way back to 2001.

The 2007 set is done in the style of the 1958 Topps Baseball release.

My box contained a felt team emblem.

Any Dodgers fans out there? This can be yours!

My first card was Big Game James. Lots of solid color on the backgrounds of these cards. My wife also tried a piece of the gum. Not recommended!

I believe there is a card for each of Mantle’s HRs for the year. I received four. Let me know if you’d like these!

Along the same lines are shiny A-Rod inserts. This can be yours, as well.

I normally don’t collect the New Age Performers but these are both players I collect. Bonus!

I love the history lesson Heritage has on its inserts.

And the generational shift.

Shiny chromes up for trade. Ausmus is 1007/1958. Garland is 0946/1958.

My relic. This is on it’s way to a Mr. John Hazen.

Final Tally

175 of 494 base.

13 inserts

1 relic

1 double

I normally don’t collect the SPs but since the numbering is pretty funky I might have to. I like to put my heritage sets in a three-ring binder and would have to compensate for the gaps. As an example – cards #4 & #5 are listed as SPs but 1-3 and 6-12 aren’t. Thus we have the birth of my first collecting PET PEEVE.

My wantlist for the set can be found here.

Thank you so much for reading and let me know if you can swing a trade with me!

Hobby Box Break #10 – 2015-16 Upper Deck Hockey Series 1

Baseball season is over. The Royals are the 2015 Champions and I’m almost done with completing my 2015 Update set. It’s time to broaden my horizons.

My local card shop, THREE STARS SPORTCARDS, had this box for $20 less than the boxes on ebay.

First card. I like the design. Sharp picture. Pleasing to the eye.

My Relic. For some reason I like getting Hockey relics much more than Baseball ones. Perhaps it’s because sweaters are just so much cooler than jerseys.

One of the inserts sets. The bottom right is a blue parallel. These are okay. I haven’t paid attention to the NHL in a few years so my player collection list has names like Jagr, Bure, Hasek, and Kariya. Ovechkin was just starting out the last year I followed hockey so I’ll probably hang on to him. The others are up for trade.

Another insert set. These are much more appealing to me. ┬áThere are 60 total cards in the set and I have 4. It’ll be interesting to see if I can complete it through trades.

There are also canvas variants. These seem to be similar stock to UD Masterpieces – a set that I love!

The draw of the set and the box is the Short Printed Young Guns. Connor McDavid is this year’s stud but Max Domi and Dylan Larkin are also drawing a bit of attention due to their hot starts. I pulled a bunch of “meh”s.

Here are some of my favorite pics from my box.

I wonder what the players do with all of the hat trick hats?

It’s great to see the joy on kids faces. I took my son skating for the first time last year so the Marleau card speaks to me.

Roar! Bear claw! Talk to the hand . . .

Cartoon cameo!

Are they trying to get a squirrel out of the rafters?!

You should never use blocks of cheese for protection.

Ramo! That might have to be my new celebration chant. Hockey has a history of great names. Beukeboom. Satan. Jagr. Bonk. Hossa. Puppa. And many more. Now – RAMO!

Chara is a giant! 6’9″. I used to work at the Saint Paul Hotel. Most of the visiting hockey teams would stay at the hotel the night before they played the MN Wild. I always recognized Chara because he was a head taller than every other player and our chairs were drastically too small for the guy.

Speaking of the Wild – Here are my team cards!

170 of 200 base

12 inserts

6 Young Guns SPs

1 relic

No Doubles!

I did purchase another box and complete the base set. The 6 Young Guns in that box were pretty “meh” as well. Let me know if you need any base since I have about 140 doubles and would be willing to part with the Shining Stars inserts, too!

Thanks for reading!

The EBAY Addiction #3 – Hockey and MST3K

I learned how to skate during my sophomore year in high school. This is extremely late in life especially for a Minnesotan. So when it was announced that an NHL team was coming back to MN in the late 90’s, I dived head first into collecting the league’s trading cards.

This collecting bug only lasted a few years due to finances.

Now, in my research through the ebay-verse, I discovered renowned Diamond Kings artist, Dick Perez, painted an insert set called Ice Kings! The 1993-94 Donruss complete set could be had for a reasonable price.

1993-94 Donruss Ice Kings

I think I really started to watch Hockey around 1995 so these players are right on the Genesis of my fandom!

The Finnish Flash!

This has peaked my interest into collecting this year’s Upper Deck hockey main set. I’m pretty sure my next Hobby Box break will be the 2015-16 Series one.

Another love of mine throughout my life has been MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000. This was a MN based TV program that aired for 10 seasons. My wife and I have it playing on our bedroom TV most nights.

One of the best episodes is undoubtably The FINAL SACRIFICE. If you’ve seen the episode you will understand my need for the next ebay purchased card.

If you haven’t take some time to enjoy great comedy!
